6 Online Podcast Communities to Join
Podcasting can be a lonely and tricky business. Sometimes you’ll just want to talk to someone else that understands your situation or need a place to go to ask for help with a technical question. Fortunately there are plenty of communities online that will have your back and give you a hand if you need it, or lend an ear when you just want to rant and rave about your favourite new podcast. Here are five communities online to check out for when you want to virtually hang out with your fellow podcasters.
Set up by Helen Zaltzman, host of The Allusionist, this Facebook group is full of podcasters exchanging tips and advice in between an end-of-week, rather Englishly titled, Weekend Wankfest designated for self-promotion. The group is also full of individuals keen to lend a hand to any podcaster in need of help.
These two hashtags are a great way to keep up with independent podcasters on Twitter. From promoting recent episodes to being used as a flag for help, both are well followed and you’re bound to interact with likeminded podcasters if you use either, or both, of them. ## ]
A lively and well populated Facebook group full of listeners sharing their thoughts and opinions on their favourite shows and recent show discoveries. If you’ve just got into a new show and want to rant and rave to someone then you’re bound to find a kindred spirit in this group.
The self-styled “front page of the internet”, Reddit, has a terrific subreddit of over 48,000 subscribers eager to share help and advice, as well as exchange tips and recommendations. From a weekly self-promotion thread, to a wide variety of podcast related discussions ranging from production to new favourite shows there’s a constant buzz in this subreddit.
This is a Facebook community dedicated to, as you may have guessed, supporting female podcasters with their shows, sharing resources, tips, and anything else podcast related.
The Gray Lady have dived into supporting the podcast listening community with a weekly podcast club billed as “a book club for podcasts.” Each Monday will feature a new podcast to discuss and talk about with the 9000 members of the Facebook group so expect lively discussions every week.
